NEW NFL Uniforms & Helmets Unveiled for 2023 Season

Updated: Jul 31, 2023

Update... 2023 is the year for updated uniforms or throwbacks to past favorite styles. Ten NFL teams have confirmed their design changes, with rumors of a few more.

While NFL is in the offseason, teams are gearing up for the 2023 season by revealing the new redesigned uniforms and helmets or throwing it back with yesteryears designs.

We're still waiting on release announcements from Denver. Updates will be added here... Stay tuned!

Arizona Cardinals: Full uniform upgrade

The Cardinals completely overhauled their uniforms with a new streamlined alternate, home, and road designs. They chose a modernized style with the traditional red, white, and black team colors. These upgrades feature details like dotted mesh fabrics, traditional triple stripes on pants, and shoulder stripes highlighting the team name. The bonus details are the red cardinal logo on the back neckline and the team phrases "Bird Gang" or "Protect the Nest" on the inside neckline. This look is classic and a much-needed upgrade.

Atlanta Falcons: Red helmet returns

Falcons are bringing back their iconic red helmet now that the NFL has changed the one-helmet rule. The crimson helmet returns for games against the Packers in Week 2, the Commanders in Week 6, and the Saints in Week 12. Many teams seem thrilled with the allowance of more than one helmet. It offers more uniform creativity and customization.

Carolina Panthers: Color change jerseys

The Panthers will release a slightly new look this 2023 season. With Nike's new color technology, they can now color match the Panther's process blue. They will also include some very minor detail changes. The jerseys will feature a modified shorter shoulder stripe. It will no longer continue under the armpit to allow increased mobility. Most may not notice the changes as there won't be any drastic redesigns.

Cleveland Browns: 1940-50s throwback white helmet

For the first time since 1951, the Browns will debut a white alternate helmet. It features an orange and brown stripe down the middle. For the first time in 70 years, they will wear another color other than orange helmets. Cleveland will wear its 2021 throwback jerseys with the white helmet when they play against the Steelers in Week 2, the 49ers in Week 6, and the Jets in Week 17. The white helmets and fan-voted Brown's dawg logo and are part of the team's initiative to involve the fans. The white helmet is crisp and would have been a great focal point to feature the new dawg logo, but baby steps.

Denver Broncos: New white alternate helmet

Colder than ice... The new Broncos "Snowcapped" helmet is white with an orange and blue center stripe and classic D logo on the sides. This ice-cold helmet will be worn with the all-orange alternate uniform, per league requirements. Broncos have worn five helmet designs and the all-white helmet shell is the first in their history. It's a very clean simplistic design and flatters the all-orange uniform well. The white helmet shell is on trend... very similar to the Browns, save for the D logo and white facemask.

Detroit Lions: New blue alternate helmet

Something old, something new, something borrowed, and certainly, something blue. The Lion's new Honolulu blue helmet harkens to the likeness of a classic Ford Mustang. The design commemorates the Lion's 90th season. Styled with a retro "stalking lion" logo, Mustang stripes, a matte signature gray facemask, and the shell is a blue that has never been worn in the NFL. The new helmet will be worn with the Lion's all-gray alternate uniform when they play against the Raiders in Week 8 and the Vikings in Week 18. What better way to design a helmet than model it after a classic car?

Indianapolis Colts: Black helmet with Indiana Nights uniforms

"Them Indiana boys in them Indiana Nights." For the first time in Colt's history, they will debut a matte black helmet to wear with their alternate "Indiana Nights" uniforms. The blue heathered jersey and pants are a first in the NFL. The heathered fabric gives the uniform a sporty textured look. Classic white stripes run horizontally across the shoulder pads and down the pant legs. Featured at the top left of the jersey is the Colt's secondary logo. Notice the shape of Indiana inside the horseshoe. The details for this set are clever and the black helmet is sleek.

Minnesota Vikings: 1960-70s throwback purple uniforms

The Vikings will pay homage to the past by wearing purple uniforms bearing the same classic vintage style of their 1960-70s uniforms. They feature white and yellow horizontal shoulder stripes like the traditional uniforms but still maintain the modern style cap sleeve. The sans-serif font numbers are larger and gold-trimmed-white to match the style from the 60s. The classic jerseys will be worn in Week 1 against the Buccaneers. I love the vintage football card poses they used in the photo shoot. Clearly, they had fun!

New York Jets: 1990s throwback uniforms

The rumors are TRUE! The potential throwback uniform was leaked on Twitter video last week. Jets dropped their Legacy White Uniforms, inspired by the New York Sack Exchange. These throwbacks are crisp white featuring historically accurate numbers and fonts and double stripes on the sleeves. The pants are white with a single green stripe. Helmets are green with white face masks and the '78-'89 "Sack Exchange" Jets logo. The uniforms will be worn against the Bills in Week 1 and the Chiefs in Week 4.

Philadelphia Eagles: 1990s throwback kelly green

The Eagles confirmed it! They're bringing back the '90s-era Kelly Green uniform. The uniforms consist of Kelly Green jerseys and helmets along with grey pants and white with green-striped socks. They'll debut the uniforms against Miami in Week 7 and Buffalo in Week 12. The new Eagles uniforms are made of more breathable recycled materials and Nike's custom-created Kelly Green color that isn't in the Pantone selection.

Seattle Seahawks: 1980-90s throwback blue, green, and silver throwback

The Seahawks brought back all the 90s nostalgia. Not only did they release their throwback uniforms but they created a whole website to match. There's a nod to AOL dialup upon loading the site and blocky-style gif ads. The main focus revolves around the royal blue jerseys featuring silver and green accents, silver pants with green and blue stripes, and silver helmets. The uniforms will be worn for the game against the Browns in Week 8.

Hopefully, they continue to include other 90s easter eggs all along the way.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers: 1970-90s throwback ‘Creamsicle’

The "Creamsicle" uniforms are back! The name is perfect for the creamy orange jerseys... reminds you of cooling off on a hot summer day with a creamsicle from the ice cream truck. These orange jerseys will be paired with the white helmets that feature the iconic "Bucco Bruce" logo, white striped pants, and orange and white socks. The Bucs also created a fantastic throwback website to feature the Creamsicle colors, 70s serif bubble font, and Polaroid photos. The highlight videos have an authentic 70s feel.

Tennessee Titans: Throwback Houston Oilers

Luv Ya' Blue era is back! The Titans chose the light blue Houston Oilers throwback uniforms. These uniforms represent the transition from Oilers to Titans. The same uniforms Houston Oilers wore for almost two decades and also as the Tennessee Oilers. The throwbacks will feature the classic oil derrick logo on white helmets with red and blue stripes and a red face mask. "Columbia Blue" jerseys with red trimmed white numbers and red, white, and blue striped sleeves. The set will be completed with white pants that have red and blue stripes and blue socks with red and white stripes. Oilers throwbacks will replace the light blue "Titans" jerseys as the third jersey for two home games.

Ugliest Throwback Uniform: Pittsburg Steelers Bumblebee

With all the new throwback uniforms, we're thankful none are as ugly as the "Bumblebee" throwback the Pittsburgh Steelers wore from 2012-2016. It was a modern concept based on the uniforms from 1933-34 when the team began. The style didn't translate well with current fans. We've come up with a possible alternate uniform that might be more favored... While it's too late for their 90th season commemoration, it's perfect for the 100th season 2033.
