TIME Magazine named Taylor Swift as the Person of the Year 2023. She's officially the first solo entertainer to be given the title. She beat out eight finalists like King Charles III, Barbie, the Hollywood Strikers, Vladimir Putin, Xi Jinping, Sam Altman, Trump Prosecutors, and Jerome Powell. Odd line-up, but she defeated them all.
How could TIME possibly decide? Sam Jacobs, the magazine’s editor-in-chief, shared on NBC’s “Today” program “Picking one person who represents the eight billion people on the planet is no easy task. We picked a choice that represents joy. Someone who’s bringing light to the world. She was like weather, she was everywhere.” You're not wrong, Sam.
“Swift’s accomplishments as an artist — culturally, critically, and commercially — are so legion that to recount them seems almost beside the point,” - Sam Jacobs, TIME Magazine
It DOES seem like Swift is everywhere, she's certainly taken over entertainment and sports news. Besides her accomplishments as an artist, her relationship with the Kansas City Chiefs Tight End Travis Kelce has pushed her further into the spotlight.
In the article, she shares about her career and this year's achievements "It feels like the breakthrough moment of my career, happening at 33." she said. "And for the first time in my life, I was mentally tough enough to take what comes with that….This is the proudest and happiest I’ve ever felt, and the most creatively fulfilled and free I’ve ever been."
For the first time, Swift finally opens up about her healthy relationship with Kelce. "This all started when Travis very adorably put me on blast on his podcast, which I thought was metal as hell," Swift said. "We started hanging out right after that. So we actually had a significant amount of time that no one knew, which I’m grateful for, because we got to get to know each other. By the time I went to that first game, we were a couple. I think some people think that they saw our first date at that game? We would never be psychotic enough to hard launch a first date.”
She added, "When you say a relationship is public, that means I’m going to see him do what he loves, we’re showing up for each other, other people are there and we don’t care…The opposite of that is you have to go to an extreme amount of effort to make sure no one knows that you’re seeing someone. And we’re just proud of each other."
Some may argue that she hasn't really accomplished anything important. Or she's not an athlete so 'sports should stay sports' and stop covering her. She's dating an NFL player so that makes her sports by association... duh! Math! Regardless, of opinions, she's a strong woman role-model. She works very hard to achieve her goals. She cares about the greater good and values those who work for her. Besides all that, she's thoughtful and kind... She showed up to her Person of the Year photoshoot with homemade pumpkin bread. THAT'S A WINNER!
